Taylor Bagby is a Preconstruction Manager for Barton Malow Company. In this role, she serves as design manager on Ford’s $5 billion Blue Oval SK Battery Park project in Glendale, KY. Her versatility allows her to fill multiple leadership roles within the department as needed, from design manager to estimator or preconstruction lead. Taylor also helps ensure standard practices are adhered to while growing and maintaining a strong communication network between owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors and vendors.

Peers, superiors and project partners alike admire Taylor for her meticulous organization, unwavering composure and eagerness to help. She has a participative management style through which she invites colleagues to work with her to achieve goals instead of merely assigning tasks. Her superiors consider her leadership qualities to be her biggest asset. Taylor has an uncanny ability to rally colleagues and steer them in the same direction. She not only leads her team and executes her responsibilities exceptionally well but seeks to mentor and bring out the best in those around her.
Taylor earned her Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Purdue University. She’s been a rising star within Barton Malow since joining as a project engineer intern in 2009. In that role, she worked on the University of Michigan’s C.S. Mott Children’s and Women’s Hospital, where she would give birth to twins about a decade later. In 2010, she served as project engineer intern for Barton Malow on the Joint School of Nanotechnology and Nanoengineering project, an
academic collaboration between North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T) and The University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNC Greensboro). After her internships, she was hired as a project engineer in 2011 before transitioning to project manager in 2016. Taylor has served in her current role within Barton Malow Company for more than two years.
Beyond her outstanding work performance and leadership within the preconstruction department, Taylor is heavily involved in several key Barton Malow initiatives. She was among the first cohort of graduates from the company’s Lean/IPD university. The Lean construction philosophy seeks to maximize the value and output of a project while minimizing wasteful aspects and time delay. This program, consisting of 40 hours of knowledge-based education and hands-on simulations, makes each graduate a champion of Lean concepts in their respective projects as a means of streamlining efficiency, safety and collaboration. She’s also a member of the Sustainability Community, which is helping establish the company’s environmental, social and governance initiatives. Finally, she’s part of the company’s New Hire Ambassador Program, which aims to help new team members feel comfortable sooner and achieve a sense of acceptance and belonging.
Taylor holds various licenses and certifications, including the Healthcare Construction Certificate from the American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Construction Industry 30-Hour course, Construction Quality Management for Contractors from the Corps of Engineers and Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Green Business Certification Inc.’s (GBCI) LEED Green Associate, and Scaffolding Safety for Designated Competent Persons from Circle Safety and Health Consultants.
Taylor has been an active member of every community she’s lived in. She’s been a general member of DEC’s Young Leaders since 2014 and has served as a volunteer and team captain for DEC’s Career Readiness Academy. She has volunteered for various Habitat for Humanity locations since 2011, including Greensboro, NC; Charlottesville, VA; and Oakland County, MI. She’s also a team captain for the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk and a Team Coach for Girls on the Run International.

I have three-year-old twins, so not much free time, but I try to spend as much of my non-work time with my children. I also love cooking elaborate meals, and enjoy being outside in my garden.
If I could give advice to my 20-year-old self, I would say…
Don’t wait so long to be comfortable with asking questions. Also, try to enjoy each phase while it lasts. I am certainly more aware of how quickly time goes/phases pass as I get older.
