LANSING, January 25, 2023 ~ Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer will deliver her fifth State of The State address later this evening, presented for the first time in three years in front of a live audience.
The event will take place during a joint session of the Michigan House and Senate, where Whitmer will face a friendly forum populated by a democrat majority, the first Lansing has seen in nearly 40 years.
The realities for conservatives are sinking in, as Whitmer and her party contemplate bold moves that could drastically shift direction on topics like the environment, education, election reform, labor laws, and economic development.

(CONTINUED) One initiative that’s expected to be outlined in the speech is an expansion of Michigan’s Great State Readiness Program (GSRP), which currently offers free preschool programs to families that earn up to 250% of the federal poverty level.
Under the revised plan, all Michigan families would be eligible for free pre-school before the governor’s second term concludes. The governor’s office suggests that this expansion would save each eligible family $10,000.
Also expected to come from the presentation are tax relief programs for low-income seniors, gun safety measures, and investments in mental health support programs for law enforcement.
“The State of the State address is an opportunity to talk about the issues that make a real difference in people’s lives and focus on what we’re going to get done this year,” said Governor Whitmer.
“I can’t wait to share my vision for our state as we move towards our bright future, and lay out my plans to lower costs, bring supply chains and manufacturing home to Michigan, and ensure Michiganders have unparalleled economic opportunity and personal freedom.”
