(CONTINUED) Guests featured at this year’s event included Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, Detroit Reginal Chamber President and CEO Sandy Baruah, Detroit Catholic Archbishop Allen Vigneron, Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel, Andiamo Restaurant Group Owner Joe Vicari, former Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, and Parade Company President and CEO Tony Michaels, among others.
Started back in 1985, the first WJR St. Patrick’s Day broadcast was a small, impromptu gathering of a dozen or so leaders hosted in the radio station’s Fisher Building lobby by legendary broadcaster J.P. McCarthy. From those roots, this annual event has blossomed to become Detroit’s traditional St. Patrick’s Day kick-off, with as many as several thousand guests on-hand each year.
