May 11, 2023 ~ After a lengthy legal battle, many Michigan residents will soon get financial payouts from TurboTax.
About 122,000 Michiganders will receive roughly $30 checks in the mail in May, totaling $3.5 million. This was from a lawsuit filed against the company’s owner Intuit over inaccurate claims of free tax services.
An agreement for the lawsuit was reached in 2022 by multiple state attorney generals, with all 50 states and the District of Columbia signing the agreement. The suit alleged that many low-income customers who qualified for free IRS tax filing services were “tricked” into paying for tax services through the company, according to a statement from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.
