WASHINGTON DC, March 10, 2021 ~ Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion dollar COVID-19 relief bill with a vote of 220 to 211. The legislation is on its way to the President’s desk, who will sign the bill Friday.
\”This is a critical moment in our country\’s history,\” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. \”Today, we have a real opportunity for change.\”
The bill will allot $1,400 to individuals earning up to $75,000, and $2,800 to couples making up to $150,000, as well as $1,400 for each dependent child. In addition, this legislation allows a “child allowance” of up to $3,600 a year for each child under six, or $3,000 for children 17 and under. The legislation also includes benefits for parents paying up to $8,000 in childcare in a refundable tax credit.
Unemployment benefits have been extended as well, granting $300-per-week through September 6, and allows the first $10,200 of unemployed benefits to be tax-free for household incomes under $150,000.
Other benefits include assisting schools, food programs, rental assistance, and funding for at-risk industries such as airlines and concert venues.
\”The American Rescue plan is a force for fairness and justice in America,\” Pelosi said just before the vote. \”This legislation is one of the most transformative and historic bills any of us will ever have the opportunity to support.\”
