DETROIT, July 27, 2022 ~ A federal court has issued a seizure of $193,303.61 from Paypal and Plumfund accounts belonging to and run by former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his wife, who were collecting crowdfunding donations while having outstanding debts to the City of Detroit.
“You have a right to ask the court to return your property to you if you think you do not owe the money to the Government that it claims you do, or if you think the property the Government is taking qualifies under an exemption,” stated the order from Judge Nancy Edmunds.
According to the notice, he has 20 days after receiving the notice to request a hearing in writing.
This comes as a result of the investigation opened by federal prosecutors early this month after suspicions were raised that the couple was soliciting crowdfunded donations to purchase a Florida home, and provide for their newborn son.
