EAST LANSING, November 11, 2022 ~ The Michigan State Spartans notched closer to bowl eligibility Saturday with a 27-21 win over the Scarlet Knights at Spartans Stadium.

Early game offensive missteps for the Spartans raised concerns, though quarterback Paton Thorne came through when it mattered most, making big touchdown connections with tight end Daniel Barker and receiver Jayden Reed.

Also of note was a best-of-season performance by Spartans special teams, with two kickoffs for touchback, six kickoffs or punts that forced the Knights to start drives inside their own 20 yard line, and kicker Ben Payton sealing the win with two fourth quarter field goals, one from 48 yards out.
